His Story…
James V The Poet is an internationally multi-award-winning North Carolina poet and active-duty U.S. Navy Diver stationed in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. His debut poetry collection, Purple Rose: The Stars Carry Her Name — Letters from Me to Her, is a deeply personal exploration of love, loss, memory, and devotion. Through vivid metaphor and emotional honesty, James transforms lived experience into poetry that resonates with readers around the world.
Before joining the U.S. Navy, James served as a civilian Search and Recovery Diver with the National Academy of Police Diving, reflecting a lifelong commitment to service. In recognition of that dedication, he received the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award Certificate and Medal of Merit, endorsed by the President of the United States, for extraordinary lifesaving action.
His service extends far beyond the military. James has earned multiple Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for thousands of hours of volunteer work supporting nonprofit organizations and his community. His volunteer service includes serving as a Department of Defense Sexual Assault Victim Advocate, an American Red Cross CPR and Basic Life Support Instructor, volunteering with the USO, and representing the We Defy Foundation in Hawaiʻi as an ambassador, helping combat veterans through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Whether beneath the ocean, in service to others, or behind the page, James is driven by the same principles: resilience, purpose, and authenticity. Those values define both his life and his writing.
